Yado Battery-Free, Wireless Sensing Technology

Battery-free. Wireless. Limitless.

Continuous monitoring without wires or batteries, powered by heat, induction, electric field and light.

Delivering continuous monitoring without wires and batteries

Over seven generations of development, Yado has learned to run its sensors on heat, induction, electric fields and light, keeping consumption extremely low and proving reliability in real installations. Controsys supplies the sensors together with the concentrators, gateways and HMI that bring their readings into your monitoring system — see the Controsys home page for our panel-building services.

Energy harvesting

Four ways to power a sensor with no battery

Yado Thermal Bolt fitted to a bolted electrical connection

Thermoelectric (TEG)

– Heat

Electrical equipment always gives off heat, which is both a by-product and a warning sign. The Thermal Bolt fastens onto the connection point and turns that heat into electricity, so it can report temperature in real time.

Yado Apollo Magnetic Thermal Sensors stuck to a switchgear enclosure

Photovoltaics

– Light

Its power needs are so low that the Apollo Magnetic Thermal Sensor runs on light as dim as 24 lux. Ordinary indoor lighting is enough to keep thermal monitoring going on switchgear and other enclosures.

Yado Thermal Cap Nut screwed onto an exposed connection bolt

Electric field

– Voltage

The Thermal Cap Nut threads onto exposed bolt ends and gathers energy from the surrounding electric field, so it keeps monitoring even when no current is flowing.

Yado Monitoring ultra-low-power chip on a circuit board

Ultra-low power

Ultra-low-power design makes energy harvesting dependable in the field

0.7 µAstandby current

Powering more with less

In standby a Yado sensor draws just 0.7 µA, which Yado compares to roughly a tenth of what a durable car key uses. A highly integrated SoC and careful energy management make that possible.

Think before transmit

Each sensor processes its readings on board and talks both ways: it answers when asked, sends processed data, and otherwise rests in low-power standby to save energy and extend its life.

About Yado

Condition monitoring built on wireless, energy-harvesting sensors

Yado, based in Zhuhai, China, has made sensors for power infrastructure since 2002. It designs and builds them in its own digital factory, backed by more than 100 patents, and says it is the most recognised brand in China’s power grid.
